The implication is that even as temperatures are rising all over the world, heat waves or other related weather phenomena like extreme rainfall have yet to touch upon the western areas of New York State. In fact, if you ask realtors, they will tell you the cool climate and a tremendous supply of freshwater make Buffalo a very good destination with everywhere else facing an unprecedented heatwave. That heatwave is only going to get worse. This heat is making the jobs of our exterminators really easy. All the bugs are hiding away.

Ironically, the population of the city has already gone down by 50% in the last decades of the industrial decline. Of course, there are but few jobs left. Keeping all of this in view, the mayor of the city has declared his dominion a “Climate Refuge City”. The expectation is that Buffalo would be resurrected with wave after wave of climate refugees. Did you know many people out of Puerto Rico made Buffalo their home after the devastating hurricane season recently?

The city looks forward to welcoming these new residents. It has taken several steps to accommodate its new residents with policymaking and incentives. However, you cannot beat really affordable housing and a potentially decent job market. Granted most of these are blue-collar jobs, a lot remains to be seen after the virus. There is also very little risk for gentrification. There is an underlying emotion that the arrival of high earners from coastal cities most at risk with climate change can be a challenge.
